Javea or Xabia (Valenciana) is a fabulous area on the beautiful Northern Costa Blanca in Spain in the comarca of Marina Alta. The town of Javea itself is situated approximately half way between the major cities of Alicante and Valencia. Javea is a very lovely place and is actually Spain’s most easterly point on the main land. On a clear day some of it´s many viewing points can even see across the mediterranean sea to Ibiza. It has been called the Dawn of Spain, where you can see the first glimpses of the rising sun. The wonderful climate of Javea has also been recognized by the World Health Organization, who claim that Javea has one of the finest climates in the world. It is considered to be an ideal place to live for allergy and asthma sufferers who benefit from the near perfect climate that this area offers.
Javea is considered to be one of the most beautiful areas on the whole of the mediterranean coast. It´s main dominant feature is the imposing Montgo Mountain (also known as the “Elephant Mountain”). The Montgo Mountain seperates Javea from it´s neighbouring town of Denia. The Parc Natural del Montgo and the Cabo de San Antonio cliffs to the north of the town of Javea are prominent features on the Montgo. The views from Cabo de San Antonio are truly magnificent, offering up an amazing view across the whole of Javea and the surrounding areas.
The coast line of Javea (Xabia) is around twenty five kilometres in length and comprises of many beautiful award winning beaches and lovely coves. The mediterranean sea around Javea offers transparent clear blue waters which is ideal for swimming, sailing, fishing and all manner of water sports. Javea´s beaches of sand or pebbles (and coves) can be found at La Grava in the puerto area, Primer Muntanyar o Benissero, El Arenal (the most famous beach), Segon Muntanyar, Cala Blanca, Cala Sardinera, Cala Barraca o Portitxol, Cala Ambolo and Cala Granadella.
The population of Javea in 2014 was around 29,000 people, with around a quarter of those said to be British ex pats who have chosen to put down roots in the Costa Blanca North area. The ex pat community have many groups, such as the u3a and the lions, that offer the opportunity to get involved with local activities and meet new friends, as well as learn about this part of Spain. During the main summer months the population of this area doubles in size as tourists flock to this beautiful holiday resort from all corners of Europe.
